  • Sister by civilholdup

Phiszle, thanks so much for all your kind words! We've always tried to approach our music very thoughtfully to paint a meaningful picture with unique elements musically and lyrically. It means a lot to us every time someone like yourself enjoys our hard work and passion.

  • Hey quizkid, thanks for asking! We originally called ourselves ASM which are the initials of a close friend of the band who passed away - which is what the song Signals is about. As the band started to become more than just some guys jamming together we realized that we'd be advertising ourselves and throwing our name around a lot, which we didn't want to do with his initials. We opted to change the name out of respect and decided on Civil Holdup. The name itself doesn't have a rich backstory to be honest. We discussed many possibilities and were ultimately drawn to the oxymoron/irony of Civil Holdup.

  • Hi all, we've been so impressed with the great grass-roots response and support from the Feedbands community! It means a lot to us! If you've landed here and are enjoying our music one thing you could do that would help support us so much is to search our name on Facebook (or follow the link in our profile) and give us a like. It seems so silly, but the size of our following there really does help us with booking shows and drawing attention from promoters. It would be a free and easy way to make a real difference in supporting a local indie band.

  • Thanks so much for all your support quizkid! We're working hard on another album as we speak, we'd love to get your input on it when we have it finished and posted here!

Thank you! It's always great to hear that our music is resonating (no pun intended!) with someone. Thanks so much for the support!

  • Smile by civilholdup

Hi phiszle, thanks so much for giving us a listen and for all your kind words! We're so glad you dig the music! If you'd like to follow along with what we're up to and catch any updates, our Facebook page has all of that (and having more followers there always helps us attract more shows). In addition, we're in the process of recording new material and it will absolutely hit Feedbands as soon as it's released!

  • Either Way by civilholdup

Thanks Marcus! Those drum fills in the breakdown really thunder when we play out in a nice room/sound system, lots of fun! We did the mastering (though not the mixing) and the album artwork ourselves, so that means a lot, thank you!

  • Lying Awake (Wise Man pt. 1) by civilholdup

Oh wow, your right it does! Though for us that whole 'echoey' beginning part is played on a bass (as the bass player, I can't help but claim it hehe). It does have a part 2, on the album this track plays seamlessly into the next track, "Wise Man", with that echoey bass carrying over into the intro and then fading away.

  • Down the River by civilholdup

Thanks my man! This is one of our favorites to play live, that middle part gets funky and is so much fun to jam to! (especially since this is coming from the bass player)

  • ces1um, thanks so much for your support and kind words! That would be awesome if you would do us the honor of buying an album. It looks like one way to do it is to play a Civil Holdup track and while its playing hit the "buy" button on the bottom of the screen (on the little music player bar). That should bring you to a page to purchase the album, which is $5 - definitely more cost effective than one track at a time!

  • Speak by civilholdup

Hey fellas, thanks so much for all your kind words on a bunch of our tracks! We spent so much time and energy trying to meticulously craft every song - over 3 years of writing and almost 2 years in the studio recording this album. After all that, it means a lot to have support from people who genuinely appreciate small/local music like you guys do!

  • Just uploaded our album and very excited to be involved with this awesome concept!

Just a simple (or not) question: How'd you come up with Civil Holdup as a band name?

Received the cd and t. My 20 year old likes both and has been wearing the t and passing on Civil Holdup to his musician buddies.  He actually wore the t at his last gig in Minneapolis.

Ok. I'd love for you guys to get pressed on vinyl. I can honestly say I've loved listening to your album.   I think it's time to buy an album.   edit:  how the hell do I buy an entire album on this site again?  Do I have to do it one track at a time???
