We had the music to this song for about 2 years before the lyrics came. Leading up to the 2016 USA presidential elections, I became aware of a lot of things that as a white, straight man, I take for granted. This song, to me, is recognizing a lot of that stuff, learning to get rid of it, and moving on.  It's sort of from my perspective, but also from the perspective of some guy high in politics.  It plays back and forth with it.  The most important thing about this song, though, is that one time I played it at a show in North Carolina, and afterwards, and Latina girl came up to me and said she had never heard a white guy admit that "white privilege" exists before and it meant a lot to her.  That was something I still have a hard time believing today, but I'm glad we were able to connect with her in that way.
